2024 Mid-Year Review from Tamara

Hello!  It seems impossible that we are already in mid-July and in the throws of summer weather that we often don’t experience in Seattle.

We have had an interesting year so far. The tease and promise of the Federal Reserve lowering the interest rate didn’t happen and mortgage rates were stubborn — staying in the mid 7% range and headed towards 8% in March.  This tempered our usual spring frenetic market.

The number of houses for sale was well below the ten-year average, so the best houses in the price range where the majority of home buyers are searching can still be quite competitive.  But some other markets — specifically high-end in-city homes and downtown condos are suffering through longer market times and waning prices.

What does the prediction for fall of 2024 look like?  The inflation numbers, jobs numbers and mortgage rates, as well as political headwins will be watched closely by all.  We all await some evidence of momentum and I believe that we’ll see a market poised for higher activity the moment significant interest rate reductions occur.
